Man United vs. Southampton: Ruben Amorim answers Marcus Rashford question ahead of Saints battle

A resolution in sight? Amorim addresses Rashford situation ahead of Saints clash

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim answers a question regarding Marcus Rashford's future ahead of Thursday's Premier League clash with Southampton.

Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim refused to be drawn on Marcus Rashford's future when asked about the Englishman during Wednesday's press conference at the club's training ground.

Rashford, 27, has not played for Man United for over a month, with the forward currently out of favour under Amorim due to his lacklustre performances in training and general demeanour.

The forward was again overlooked against Arsenal in the FA Cup on Sunday despite overcoming the illness that contributed to him being left out of the team's last Premier League game away to Liverpool.

Rashford continues to be linked with a loan exit during the January transfer window, but Amorim refused to give much away when asking whether a resolution would soon be found.

"I just want to win tomorrow. My focus is to win, I will choose the players I think are best to win tomorrow," Amorim told reporters when asked about the ongoing situation regarding Rashford.

Rashford is again expected to be left out against Southampton

Man United will be bidding to win for the first time in the Premier League since the Manchester derby in the middle of December when they welcome Southampton to Old Trafford on Thursday night.

"I'm always concerned because we didn't have, during these games, the consistency in performances, in results, so always worried. It's my job to be worried but we have to face Southampton in the same way we faced Liverpool and Arsenal, for example, that is the goal. Not more, not less, face that game," Amorim told reporters.

"When you have the pressure to win that is the pressure we want. Sometimes it's hard. Against Arsenal and Liverpool, nobody qas expecting us to beat those teams but now we have top be prepared for that pressure, we need that pressure as a team and face the game the right way.

"Of course, feel the pressure of the club but in this moment I don't feel that pressure because in the last years we didn't win the league, if you follow this club in the past, if you don't win the league one year you must win it the next year. We need to bring that pressure to us, I don't feel that pressure to win and feel that pressure in the future, we need to win titles and games in this moment.

"It's different because the most difficult thing to train in one team is the way you build with the ball and in the final third the way we play, you create a situation, that is what a big team should do very well. We have, for a long time, a lack of goals and because we dont spend a lot of time with the last third, we did against Nottingham [Forest] but we need to improve in that part of the game."

Which clubs are in the running for Rashford?

AC Milan remain the favourites for the forward, but Barcelona are believed to be giving serious consideration to making a move for the Englishman before the January transfer window closes for business.

Juventus had also been in the running, but the Old Lady are now closing in on the loan signing of Randal Kolo Muani from Paris Saint-Germain, suggesting that their interest in Rashford is over.

Borussia Dortmund, Tottenham Hotspur, Arsenal and West Ham United are also viewed as potential outsiders for Rashford, who has scored seven times in all competitions for the 20-time English champions this season.
