RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche hints that the coronavirus outbreak could affect the future of Timo Werner, who has been linked with Liverpool and Chelsea.

RB Leipzig sporting director Markus Krosche has suggested that the coronavirus shutdown could have an impact on the future of Timo Werner.

Werner has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer following another prolific campaign which has seen him score 27 goals and create 12 more in 36 games across all competitions.

Liverpool are understood to be leading the race for the 24-year-old's signature, while the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea have also been credited with an interest.

However, with the coronavirus outbreak affecting the finances of clubs all over the world and the future of the rest of 2019-20 still uncertain, Krosche hinted that Werner's future remains up in the air too.

"It is clear that Timo has attracted interest from other clubs for his great performances with his goals and assists," he told Sport1.

"England has the same problems as we do. The crisis affects not just one league, it has a global impact, and we cannot say whether things will be the same in six months.

"Everything is possible. We do not know how the transfer market is developing. We are looking into a very foggy glass ball. We do not know what our resources are and what the other clubs have in terms of opportunities."

Werner's contract with Leipzig expires in 2023, but the Germany international is understood to have a minimum release clause of around £51m in his current deal.
