Manchester United are reportedly poised to sack assistant boss Mike Phelan as David Moyes eyes a new backroom staff.

Manchester United are reportedly poised to sack assistant manager Mike Phelan as the club move into a new era under boss David Moyes.

There had been suggestions following Sir Alex Ferguson's decision to retire that Phelan would be shown the door, while goalkeeper coach Eric Steele is also expected to face the chop.

It is understood that Moyes is keen to take Everton first-team coach Jimmy Lumsden with him to Old Trafford following talks with Phelan at Carrington this week, according to the Daily Mail.

Phelan, who was linked with the Burnley managerial job two years ago, has worked alongside Ferguson for nearly five years.
