West Ham United boss David Moyes claims that Erik ten Hag is joining a "great club" in Manchester United, but has questioned whether the Dutchman will make them stronger.

The Red Devils officially announced the appointment of Ten Hag as their new head coach on Thursday, with the 52-year-old to leave his post at Ajax and succeed interim boss Ralf Rangnick at the end of the season.

Moyes – who succeeded club legend Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013 and spent 10 underwhelming months at Old Trafford – has praised Ten Hag's coaching style but he is unsure as to whether the Dutchman can bring back the glory days to the red side of Manchester.

"I don't know him but I obviously admire Ajax and how they've played over last few years," the Scotsman told reporters via The Mirror.

"He's joining a great club and he'll find that when he gets there. It's a huge club and a good club to work for.

"[His coaching style] adds to the variations of what we have got from different coaches from different parts of the world. But will it make Man Utd stronger? We'll have to wait and see."

Moyes is currently preparing his West Ham side for a challenging London derby away at Chelsea in the Premier League on Sunday.
