Juan Mata has declared himself "comfortable" with the 3-5-2 system adopted by Louis van Gaal since his arrival at Manchester United this summer.
The Spaniard, who was often played in a wider position by David Moyes, has been used in a central attacking role behind the strikers for much of the pre-season campaign, and he is happy with the progress he is making ahead of the new Premier League campaign.
"We are all excited to start the new season. Everybody wants to do better, we want to fight for the trophies and this club deserves that. We will try our best," Mata told the club's official website. "I feel good, and I feel comfortable in this position.
"I have to do what the manager wants me to do, both offensively and defensively, and I am trying to do that.
"It can be a good position for me to try to perform to my best."
Mata scored as United beat Liverpool 3-1 in the final of the International Champions Cup on Monday night in Miami.
