Spain boss Luis Enrique plays down claims that he could replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as manager of Manchester United.

Spain boss Luis Enrique has played down suggestions that he could replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as head coach of Manchester United.

Having sacked Solskjaer and placed Michael Carrick in charge of first-team affairs, the Red Devils are now planning to appoint an interim manager until the end of the campaign.

A recent report claimed that Cristiano Ronaldo wants Enrique to become Man United's next long-term manager, but the 51-year-old insisted that the claim should not be taken seriously.

"Is today April Fools' Day?", Enrique told La Sexta when asked about the rumour.

Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has also said that Enrique is "absolutely not planning to leave Spain right now", as he is "so happy" with his current job.

The former Barcelona manager led Spain to the semi-finals of Euro 2020, in addition to the final of the 2020-21 UEFA Nations League.
