Marcus Rashford is reportedly not training with Manchester United on Wednesday, as his brother and agent heads to Italy to hold discussions with AC Milan executives.

Marcus Rashford is reportedly not training with Manchester United on Wednesday, with the forward's brother and agent believed to have travelled to Italy to hold discussions with AC Milan executives.

The England international was not involved in Man United's Premier League clash with Liverpool on Sunday due to an illness, but it is likely that he would have been left out even if the attacker was in full health.

Rashford has not played for the Red Devils since December 12, recently being overlooked by Man United head coach Ruben Amorim due to his lacklustre training performances and also his general demeanour around Carrington.

The 27-year-old expressed a desire to seek "a new challenge" in an interview with journalist Henry Winter after being left out of the squad for the Manchester derby with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium.

Rashford is believed to have rejected three lucrative offers from the Saudi Pro League and is not thought to be willing to engage in talks over a move to Turkey despite interest from Istanbul giants Galatasaray.

Rashford's brother 'heads to Milan' for transfer talks

AC Milan have recently been credited with an interest in the Red Devils academy product, and according to Sky Sports News, the forward's brother and agent has travelled to Italy for transfer talks.

The report claims that a permanent switch to San Siro this month is highly unlikely due to the numbers involved, but the Serie A outfit are working to understand whether a loan move is possible.

A deal is complicated by the fact that Milan would not be able to come close to covering Rashford's salary, which is in the region of £315,000 a week, so Man United must decide whether the deal is worth it from a financial point of view.

Rashford is not believed to be training with Man United on Wednesday, partly down to illness, and it remains to be seen whether he returns later this week, with the Red Devils preparing for their weekend clash with Arsenal in the FA Cup.

Has Rashford played his last game for Man United?

Rashford is Man United's joint-second highest goalscorer this season with seven goals, but he has only managed four goals and one assist in 15 Premier League appearances during the 2024-25 campaign.

"It's the same situation but, at the moment, he's ill," Amorim told reporters last Friday when he was asked whether Rashford would be involved against Liverpool. "I think he's going to be out this week. He's not training so we will see."

It is difficult to imagine a route back for Rashford at Man United, with a permanent deal likely this summer if he only departs on loan for the second half of the 2024-25 campaign.

The forward needs a change at a key period of his career, and Man United are hopeful that he will be able to generate a transfer fee in the region of £40m, which would represent pure profit under the Premier League's Profit and Sustainability rules.
