Phil Jones admits that he prefers to play at centre-back, but will play wherever he is asked by Manchester United.

Manchester United's Phil Jones has admitted that his favourite position is centre-back, but he is happy to play anywhere he is needed.

The England international has featured at right-back, as well as in midfield, for club and country, but was partnered alongside Chris Smalling in central defence for United's last match.

After being praised by Sir Alex Ferguson, Jones said that he is more comfortable in defence.

"I have said all along [centre-back] is where I feel most comfortable," Jones told The Guardian. "I understand and read the game better there.

"But wherever I am asked to play, I will play there.

"I kind of shoot myself in the foot a bit [by performing well in midfield] but I am at Manchester United and I love playing for this club, and I will play anywhere."

Jones is likely to be part of the Manchester United squad which take on Southampton on Wednesday.
