How Manchester United could line up against Partizan Belgrade

Sports Mole looks at how Manchester United could line up for Thursday's Champions League clash with Partizan Belgrade at Old Trafford.

Manchester United will be hoping to bounce back from their demoralising 1-0 defeat to Bournemouth when they face Partizan Belgrade in the Europa League.

The loss put an end to a slight upturn in form for the Red Devils, who had won three in a row across all competitions after failing to win any of their last six within 90 minutes.

United have just three Premier League wins from 11 games and anything but victory against Partizan would see Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's position come under even greater scrutiny.

Here, Sports Mole looks at how the Red Devils could line up for Thursday's showdown.

Solskjaer has used the Europa League as an opportunity to rotate his squad at times this season, but given the negative mood around the club following the loss to the Cherries, a win is imperative and the Norwegian is likely to resist the temptation to field his youngsters and name a strong side.

The reverse fixture was far from a comfortable affair, with United grinding out a 1-0 win courtesy of an Anthony Martial penalty, and Solskjaer will hope for a more convincing scoreline on home soil.

To this end, it is possible that David de Gea will get the nod in goal ahead of second-choice shot-stopper Sergio Romero, just as was the case in the 0-0 draw with AZ Alkmaar.

Ahead of him, the centre-back partnership of Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof should be retained, with Marcos Rojo and Phil Jones likely to miss out. Ashley Young has picked up a domestic suspension but is available and could feature at left-back despite the encouraging showings of Brandon Williams, with Aaron Wan-Bissaka continuing at right-back. The absences of Dalot and Shaw to injury limit Solskjaer in his options at full-back.

The same applies in midfield, with Fred and Scott McTominay the only senior central midfielders available. Pogba and Matic are sidelined and James Garner is still very inexperienced, leaving Solskjaer few options in the centre of the park. Ahead of them, however, Solskjaer has several options, including Andreas Pereira, Jesse Lingard and Angel Gomes, but he may opt for Juan Mata's ability to find a killer pass against what is likely to be a packed Partizan defence.

The front three of Marcus Rashford, Martial and Daniel James could be deployed in an effort to boost confidence and give the home crowd something to get excited about, although that would mean Mason Greenwood misses out on a start.
