Chris Smalling: 'No rifts in Manchester United dressing room'

Manchester United's Chris Smalling denies reports of divisions within the dressing room despite increasing speculation over Jose Mourinho's relationship with his players.

Manchester United defender Chris Smalling has insisted that there are no rifts within the dressing room following his side's goalless draw with Valencia this evening.

United's season has been plagued by off-field issues so far, with manager Jose Mourinho understood to have fallen out with Paul Pogba, while reports have also suggested that the likes of Alexis Sanchez and Antonio Valencia are unhappy with the Portuguese boss.

Those problems have affected United's form on the pitch too, with tonight's Champions League stalemate extending their winless run to four matches across all competitions, but Smalling has insisted that there is complete unity amongst the squad.

"We grew in the second half, you can tell we're disappointed we didn't get the goal we deserved in the second half," he told BT Sport.

"You're just after anything. We couldn't get the goal and we're disappointed. We have to stand tall. We're going through a tough patch and we're the only ones who can turn it around.

"The dressing room is united. We're sticking together to make sure we turn it around. We're talented players and it is that confidence, mentally it is tough, we know how important the home games are but we turn our heads to Saturday now."

United host Newcastle United in the Premier League this weekend looking to end a four-match winless run at Old Trafford.
