Fenerbahce manager Jose Mourinho reportedly wants to sign Marcus Rashford in the January transfer window, but conditions will have to be met in order to secure a reunion.

Jose Mourinho reportedly wants Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford at Fenerbahce, but Paris Saint-Germain will not sign the 27-year-old.

Rashford has found himself exiled from Ruben Amorim's squad in recent times after the attacker announced his desire to leave Old Trafford.

Rashford is currently United's top goalscorer this campaign in the Premier League having found the back of the net four times, but he has not featured in Amorim's matchday squad for three consecutive games.

The Englishman's sale could prove pivotal for United's activity in the January transfer window, given any income from his departure would count as 'pure profit' due to his home-grown status and would help the club navigate the league's profit and sustainability rules.

However, TEAMtalk report that United may have to settle for a loan deal to Mourinho's Fenerbahce following PSG's reluctance to enter the race as a result of Rashford's sizeable wages.

Obstacles for Fenerbahce to overcome

One of the sticking points in regard to a a permanent transfer is the fact that Rashford is currently on a weekly wage in excess of £300k, and very few clubs in European football can afford such expenditure.

The forward's wages would also be prohibitive for Fenerbahce, but if United were to cover some of his salary, then a deal would become more plausible.

Napoli striker Victor Osimhen fell out of favour at his parent club and is on loan at Galatasaray, but he has excelled while in the Turkish Super Lig, and perhaps Rashford could follow suit and put himself in the shop window for the summer transfer market.

Additionally, having previously been coached by Mourinho, reuniting with his former boss could help the United forward get back on track, especially given the Portuguese manager has publicly indicated in the past that he knows how to get the most out of the Englishman.

Rashford's skill set as a direct runner on the last line of defence would be useful for a number of top sides, but his lucrative contract lasts until 2028, and his options in January seem to be very limited at this moment in time.

Could Rashford revive his United career?

Given the amount of time that Rashford has devoted to his boyhood team, and the amount of resources that United have poured into his development, it would be a shame if they parted company on such bitter terms, particularly as the forward should be entering his peak years.

In the build-up to United's clash against Wolverhampton Wanderers on Thursday evening, Amorim suggested that Rashford would be in contention for a spot in the starting XI, saying: "It's my decision. [Rashford] wants to play, he's trying. That's my decision. Only my decision. I spoke with a lot of players individually, during training, so I try to do things and I am doing things my way and is the only way I know.

"When I feel that is the right moment, I will change something. Until then, I will continue to think what is best for the team. I speak with him every day, not about the interview, about the performance."

One of Rasmus Hojlund or Joshua Zirkzee are almost certain to start up front as a striker against Wolves, while Amad Diallo and Bruno Fernandes can be expected to start in attacking midfield roles.

If Rashford was happy to settle for a place on the substitutes' bench, then he could at the very least provide Amorim with a valuable option later in the game.
