Manchester City tell defender Nathan Ake that he can leave the club this summer amid talk of a potential reunion with Eddie Howe, according to a report.

Manchester City defender Nathan Ake has been told he can leave the club this summer amid talk of a potential reunion with Eddie Howe, according to a report.

The 27-year-old started just 10 Premier League games during City's title-winning 2021-22 campaign, due to several injury problems and the form of Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte and John Stones ahead of him.

As a result, Pep Guardiola has informed the Dutchman that he can exit the Etihad Stadium during the upcoming transfer window, according to a report from talkSport.

The report suggests that Ake could make the move to Newcastle United in the coming weeks, with Magpies boss Howe keen on working with the central defender once again.

Howe took Ake to former club Bournemouth back in 2016 on an initial loan deal, before signing him for around £20m in the summer of 2017.

The defender went on to make 121 appearances for the Cherries across all competitions during his four-year stay, before City swooped in to sign him for around £41m in the summer of 2020.

Despite lifting the Premier League trophy during both of his seasons in Manchester, Ake has gone on to make just 24 league appearances for City so far.
