Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho expects Shakhtar Donetsk to fight fire with fire by attacking at the Etihad Stadium on Tuesday night.

Fernandinho has warned his Manchester City teammates that they will have to be alert to the "dangerous" threat posed by former club Shakhtar Donetsk if they are to maintain their impressive run of form.

The Citizens have brushed aside all comers in recent weeks, scoring a total of 24 goals in a six-match winning run in all competitions.

Everton are the only side to stop City picking up victory so far this season, but Fernandinho admits that his side cannot afford to take their eye off the ball if they are to make it two wins from two in the Champions League.

"We all know they have play attacking football," he told the club's official website. "There's a lot of Brazilian players in their squad. Every year they fight for the title over there and in the Champions League they try to play in the same way they play in their domestic league.

"We have to be prepared for that because they are a dangerous team. They're full of good players. They like to play technical football - so it will be a great game on Tuesday. I had great times over there with my teammates and the fans. It will be nice to see them all again."

Fernandinho, who spent eight years at Shakhtar prior to joining City in 2013, is reportedly on the verge of penning a new deal at the Etihad Stadium.
