Jurgen Klopp: 'No chance of Liverpool selling Daniel Sturridge'

Jurgen Klopp insists that it "would not make sense" to sell Daniel Sturridge in January, but admits to being "concerned" by the Englishman's current injury woes.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has categorically ruled out cashing in on Daniel Sturridge in the New Year, claiming that the Englishman remains a part of his first-team plans.

The 27-year-old, who is currently nursing a calf injury, has yet to play a full 90 minutes for the Reds this term and is also awaiting his first league goal.

A lack of playing time for Sturridge has seen him linked with a move away from Anfield when the transfer window reopens for business, with Southampton and West Ham United among those thought to be interested, but Klopp has now confirmed that there is no truth to the recent press reports.

"The funny thing is [the media] create stories that aren't stories, and then you ask me about the stories that aren't stories," he told reporters. "There is absolutely no idea to sell anybody from the first-team squad.

"It wouldn't make sense. Unfortunately Daniel is not in training. That's what I'm most concerned about, more than transfer rumours, I'm prepared for January. What you ask me will be funny I'm sure."

Klopp also confirmed in his pre-match press conference ahead of Sunday's trip to Bournemouth that Roberto Firmino and Adam Lallana are both back in training and could feature on the south coast, but Sturridge will again be absent.
