John Aldridge confident of Steven Gerrard stay at Liverpool

John Aldridge believes that Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard will sign a contract extension with the club.

Former Liverpool striker John Aldridge has backed captain Steven Gerrard to sign a new contract with the club.

The 34-year-old's current deal is due to expire at the end of the season and he is yet to pen fresh terms at Anfield.

Aldridge believes that Gerrard would move abroad if he were to leave Liverpool, but he remains confident that the midfielder will opt to stay.

"If Stevie was to move I'm sure it wouldn't be to another English club," he told The Mirror. "I hope that doesn't happen.

"For me, he's Liverpool's best player of all time and will still be there next season. He's a leader in the dressing room and on the pitch."

MLS side New York Red Bulls are understood to be interested in signing Gerrard in the summer.
