Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says that he sets his side's standards at a high level and will try to finish in the top four of the Premier League.

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has claimed that he sees no reason why the Reds can't finish the season in the top four of the Premier League.

The Merseyside outfit reside four points away from a Champions League spot and Rodgers has hit back at critics that have labelled Liverpool "disastrous".

"Everyone has their opinion on Liverpool and I understand that because of the standards set by this club in the 1970s and 1980s," Sky Sports News quotes Rodgers as saying.

"But for a club that has been very poor and disastrous by all accounts from other people we lie four points off top four. For me the ambition is to grow higher. We are 11 points off second and that can all turn around very quickly so you need to get consistency - and that is what we have at the minute."

The Reds are preparing to take on Aston Villa tomorrow.
