Liverpool's Adam Lallana: 'Klopp told us to play dirtier against Sunderland'

Adam Lallana says that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp told the team to play "dirtier" prior to their win over Sunderland.

Liverpool midfielder Adam Lallana has revealed that manager Jurgen Klopp told the team to play "dirtier" against Sunderland.

The Reds managed to take all three points at the Stadium of Light thanks to a second-half goal from Christian Benteke.

In the last few weeks, Liverpool have struggled to break down solid teams and it looked to be going that way against Sunderland in the North-East, but Klopp's men were able to get over the line.

Lallana played a role in the goal as he was fortunate that his light touch diverted Nathaniel Clyne's through-ball into Benteke's path.

"I don't think I meant [the ball] to go directly into Christian's path but sometimes you need the rub of the green, especially against a side like this - they're scrapping for every point," Lallana told Sky Sports News. "The manager has tried to drum it into us - we've got to be a bit more dirtier.

"The league this year is strange. It's important we take it a game at a time, we need to keep building and we've got players coming back [from injuries]."

Liverpool have moved to seventh in the Premier League table, level on points with arch rivals Manchester United.
