Jurgen Klopp says all Liverpool can do is carry on picking up points on a consistent basis, but acknowledges that the title is far from theirs at this stage.

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has insisted that being top of the table at this stage of the season "is not important", instead warning his players that they still have a long way to go.

The Reds climbed to the summit for the first time under the German thanks to a comprehensive 6-1 thrashing of Watford on Sunday afternoon, making it just one defeat in 13 outings this season.

Klopp is refusing to be weighed down by history, having seen his side go 26 years since last going all the way in the top flight, but he admits that he is happy with the way his players are gelling together following another impressive display.

"It is important to collect points for the final third of the season. We will go on and see what happens," he told Sky Sports News. "League position is not important to me at the moment. It is important that we look like a team that can play well.

"I know a lot has happened here in the past few years. This is not the team two or three years ago this is not the team of 25 years ago, this is a new group. We don't need to be afraid of the future or offer guarantees in November. It is easy to love this game when you are winning games in a row."

Liverpool have now scored 30 goals this season, putting them four ahead of the next highest scorers in Chelsea.
