Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that the Reds will finish higher next season thanks to a more settled and consistent start to the campaign.

Liverpool defender Jamie Carragher believes that there is plenty for Reds fans to be positive about heading into next season despite his imminent departure.

Brendan Rodgers looks set to finish his first season as Liverpool boss in seventh place in the Premier League following Sunday's goalless draw with city rivals Everton.

Carragher, who will retire at end of the current campaign, believes that the current crop have shown signs of the consistency required to improve in recent months.

He told The Mirror: "The manager is implementing his ideas a lot more, and you can see very positive signs. The manager making a few new signings in January gave us a boost.

"You can see it is really positive with the results we've had, but we have to take that into next season now. Yes, we had some difficult games at the start of the season, but you have to play everybody twice at some point. You have to overcome that. That's the task for this team now.

"It's about coming together as a team and winning games. Whether you keep lots of clean sheets or score lots of goals, it's about getting the three points consistently."

The Reds are unbeaten in seven Premier League games, with just three defeats in 2013.
