Half-Time Report: Luis Suarez gives Liverpool slender lead at Southampton

Luis Suarez takes advantage of a defensive mistake to give Liverpool a 1-0 lead against Southampton.

Luis Suarez has ended his mini-goal drought to give Liverpool the lead against Southampton in today's late Premier League kickoff.

The visitors had the better of the early exchanges, although Southampton did a good job of pressing their opponents to keep them away from Artur Boruc's goal.

They failed to do just that with 15 minutes played, however. The ball bobbled off Jose Fonte and into the path of Suarez. The striker then stayed calm to slot the ball in from just inside the box.

Saints almost had their equaliser when Rickie Lambert volleyed over from the edge of the box, but they came even closer after 30 minutes when Adam Lallana hit his effort against the post from a Lambert knockdown.

Lallana then fizzed a shot wide, Morgan Schneiderlin hammered a volley over the bar and Simon Mignolet saved from Jay Rodriguez as the hosts enjoyed a prolonged spell of pressure before the interval.
