Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren insists that his team can win the Champions League this season following their impressive outing against Porto.

Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren has insisted that his team can win the Champions League this season.

The Reds already have one foot in the quarter-finals of the competition courtesy of a 5-0 victory at Porto in the first leg of their last-16 tie on Wednesday night.

According to the bookmakers, Manchester City, Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain are the five clubs most likely to win the competition this season.

Lovren, however, has insisted that Liverpool have the credentials to lift this year's European Cup.

"Why not? Of course. Yes, if we are right and we do our job like we did and everyone defends well – each centimetre of the pitch is covered – then we have a great chance to be in the next round, I would say, and then it is step by step," Lovren told reporters.

Liverpool will return to Premier League action at home to West Ham United on February 24.
