Preview: Liverpool Women vs. Manchester United Women - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Sunday's Women's Super League clash between Liverpool Women and Manchester United Women, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Liverpool Women will go head-to-head with rivals Manchester United Women in Sunday's Women's Super League clash at Prenton Park.

The hosts are sitting in fifth position in the WSL table, with just goal difference separating them from their fourth-placed opponents.

The Reds will be in a buoyant mood after they produced a superb display to beat reigning WSL champions Chelsea in Wednesday's home league clash.

Goals from Sophie Roman Haug and Gemma Bonner gave Liverpool a two-goal lead, before the game produced a number of quickfire goals to leave the score at three goals apiece ahead of the closing stages.

Bonner proved to be Liverpool's hero, heading home her second goal of the game in the 92nd minute to snatch all three points and dent her former side's title hopes.

Having picked up 35 points from 20 matches, the Reds have the chance to finish in fourth place in the top flight for the first time since 2016-17.

With Liverpool targeting a win that would move them into fourth spot, they will look to draw inspiration from the fact that they claimed a 2-1 victory in December's reverse fixture.

Man United are set to fall short of last season's second-placed finish after experiencing an underwhelming WSL campaign.

Despite failing to meet their expectations in the league, the Red Devils could still claim their first major trophy in next Sunday's FA Cup final against Tottenham Hotspur.

Marc Skinner's side are hoping to carry momentum into the final after putting together a four-game unbeaten run in all competitions.

In their most recent outing against Leicester City, Ella Toone produced an unstoppable long-range effort to score an 83rd-minute winner, clinching her side a narrow 1-0 victory.

The Red Devils have won both of their last two competitive away games against Liverpool, including a 1-0 win in November's League Cup fixture.

Team News

Liverpool are expected to be without the services of Rachel Laws, Niamh Fahey and Shanice van de Sanden due to injury.

Emma Koivisto was forced off in the first half against Chelsea, and the Finland international is unlikely to feature in Sunday's home clash.

Kiernan could be rewarded with a starting place after she marked her midweek substitute appearance with a goal.

Man United have reported no fresh injury concerns, but are still unable to call upon long-term absentees Gabby George, Emma Watson and Jess Simpson.

Toone is set to return to the starting lineup after coming off the bench to score the winner against Leicester last weekend.

Skinner could also make further changes, with Aoife Mannion, Lucia Garcia and Nikita Parris all in contention to start Sunday's fixture.

Liverpool Women possible starting lineup:
Micah; Clark, Bonner, Fisk; Daniels, Hobinger, Nagano, Holland, Hinds; Kiernan, Haug

Manchester United Women possible starting lineup:
Earps; Mannion, Le Tissier, Turner, Blundell; Naalsund, Zelem; Geyse, Toone, Garcia; Parris

We say: Liverpool Women 2-1 Manchester United Women

Liverpool will be full of confidence following their midweek success over Chelsea, and we think that they could use the momentum built from that win to beat a Man United side that could be distracted by next Sunday's FA Cup final.
