Africa Cup of Nations Preview: Libya

Libya's qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations caused a major surprise. Sports Mole examines whether they can pull off another one at the tournament.

Libya's qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations has been a rollercoaster occasion.

In a country gripped by civil unrest, the Libyan footballers managed to reach the finals by claiming a best runners-up spot behind Zambia.

Brazilian coach Marcos Paqueta is considered a hero by the nation's supporters, having worked for nine months without pay.

It is a surprise to see Libya in the competition and they will be hoping to produce another by reaching at least the quarter-finals.

Group: A

Players to watch:

Ahmed Zuway

Zuway's presence could prove vital for his fellow squad members considering that he is only one of four to have participated in a previous African Cup of Nations. The 29-year-old striker is currently scoring plenty of goals in the Tunisian league.

Samir Aboud

Having been called into the squad late on during the qualifying process, goalkeeper Aboud went on to be one of Libya's stars as they reached the finals. The 39-year-old has won nine Libyan league titles during his time with Al Ittihad.

Previous best: Runners-up 1982

Odds to win outright: 40/1
