Claude Puel: 'Future looks promising for Leicester City'

Leicester City manager Claude Puel says that it is important his players can adjust to different playing styles, having taken Tottenham Hotspur apart on the counter.

Claude Puel has challenged his Leicester City players to build on Tuesday evening's victory over Tottenham Hotspur and continue their rise up the Premier League table.

The Foxes saw out a nervy final few minutes at the King Power Stadium to prevail 2-1, giving them just a second win in 12 attempts against last season's top six in 2017.

Leicester's victory was built on swift transitions from one end of the pitch to the other, much like in their title-winning campaign of 2015-16, but Puel - named as Craig Shakespeare's successor a month ago - is looking at the future rather than the past.

"I look forward. It's just to give the players different opportunities to play in open play," he told Sky Sports News. "I want to give them the chance to play in a different style.

"For example, we go to Burnley, who are in a fantastic moment and are good at set-pieces and can play good football also, so it will be another good challenge for us. It's important to play with the same confidence and quality no matter the style.

"It was a big win with quality. It was a fantastic game for us. In the first 30 minutes we tried to play on the floor as well as play on the counter-attack. The goals from Jamie [Vardy] and Riyad [Mahrez] were fantastic and this is amazing for the future.

"After the second half it was more difficult, but we had more opportunities. It was a very good game and it's important to continue this hard work on the pitch in the training sessions. It's just one game but it's promising."

Leicester, who had lost all four previous league fixtures against Spurs at the King Power Stadium, are now ninth on 17 points.
