Roberto Mancini reportedly moves a step closer to becoming the Italy national team's next manager.

Roberto Mancini is reportedly on the verge of becoming the Italy national team's next head coach.

The 53-year-old has entered a "deal in principle" with the Italian FA and will be officially announced as the Azzurri's new manager tomorrow, according to Sky Sports News.

Mancini, who left Zenit St Petersburg by mutual consent last week, is expected to sign a two-year contract with Italy.

Italy U21 manager Luigi Di Biagio has been in caretaker charge of the senior team since Gian Piero Ventura was dismissed in November last year.

The Azzurri are currently in 20th place in the FIFA World Rankings, their lowest ever position.
