FIFA president Sepp Blatter calls for 'peace match' between Israel and Palestine

FIFA head Sepp Blatter wants Israel to play Palestine in a 'peace match'.

FIFA president Sepp Blatter has proposed a 'peace match' between the Israel and Palestine national football teams.

The Swiss said that he has floated the idea to Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu and is due to meet with Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas and Football Association head Jibril Rajoub later this week.

"One item I can tell you that I spoke about with [Netanyahu]... to arrange a match for peace between the national teams of Israel and Palestine and FIFA would be happy to organise it," Reuters quotes Blatter as saying.

Blatter is campaigning to convince the Palestine FA to drop a proposal to suspend Israel from all FIFA competitions on the grounds that it has deliberately hampered Palestinian sports for years.

Israeli clubs would be suspended from competing in European competitions and the national team would not be able to feature in major tournaments if the proposal receives enough backing.
