Preview: Millwall vs. Huddersfield Town - prediction, team news, lineups

Sports Mole previews Wednesday's Championship clash between Millwall and Huddersfield Town, including predictions, team news and possible lineups.

Huddersfield Town make the trip to Millwall on Wednesday evening realistically requiring all three points to remain in the automatic promotion race.

However, just nine points separate the third-placed Terriers and Millwall who are in 11th spot, giving the home side an opportunity to make significant ground in their bid for the Championship playoffs.

Having seen their long unbeaten streak ended by Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup, Carlos Corberan would have been intrigued to see how his Huddersfield team would respond away at West Bromwich Albion.

Up until the closing stages, it appeared that the Terriers would collect another impressive three points in the Championship, but conceding twice in as many minutes gifted the Baggies a 2-2 draw.

Although Huddersfield now have a 17-match undefeated run in the league, it was a missed opportunity to keep the pressure on Bournemouth for second spot, and the Cherries now sit two points clear having played three games fewer.

All things considered, that should be enough for Corberan to demand that his players focus their attention on achieving a top-six spot, something which remains in doubt with many of the chasing pack having at least one game in hand.

While Huddersfield have not suffered an away defeat in the Championship since November 24, it came in London as they went down at Queens Park Rangers.

The Yorkshire side are not the only team to have put together a notable run of results with Millwall having collected 17 points from a possible 21.

Gary Rowett will be disappointed that successive goalless draws have been posted by his team, despite the stalemates coming against playoff rivals Blackburn Rovers and Middlesbrough.

Nevertheless, extending their streak of clean sheets to four games will be enough to worry Huddersfield ahead of this fixture, particularly with the Lions also having played a match fewer.

Millwall's current standing of 11th place is somewhat deceiving given that they trail the playoffs by just three points, but Rowett knows that he needs his forward players to rediscover their touch.

Defender Jake Cooper has netted Millwall's only two goals during the most recent four fixtures, and he now sits in fourth place in the scoring charts.

Team News

Rowett may be prepared to stick with the Millwall XI which started the meeting with Middlesbrough at the weekend.

If there is to an alteration, it will likely come in attack with Tyler Burey taking the place of Mason Bennett.

Corberan would have been satisfied with Huddersfield's first 83 minutes against West Brom, making it unlikely that he will make widespread changes.

Chelsea loanees Levi Colwill and Tino Anjorin are options for the Terriers, the former having more chance of being involved in defence.

Josh Koroma will be pushing for a recall in the final third if he has recovered from illness.

Millwall possible starting lineup:
Bialkowski; Ballard, Cooper, M. Wallace; McNamara, Mitchell, Saville, Malone; J. Wallace; Afobe, Bennett

Huddersfield Town possible starting lineup:
Nicholls; Turton, Pearson, Lees, Toffolo; Hogg, Russell, O'Brien; Thomas, Ward, Sinani

We say: Millwall 1-2 Huddersfield Town

With Huddersfield having looked more vulnerable of late, Millwall will fancy their chances of causing what would be perceived to be an upset. Nevertheless, we cannot ignore Huddersfield's unbeaten streak, and that confidence in the final third might be enough to get the better of a resolute defence.
