Hamburg, Wolfsburg share the points

Hamburg and Wolfsburg end this afternoon's Bundesliga clash with a point each after a tightly contested 1-1 draw.

Hamburger SV and Wolfsburg shared the points in a 1-1 draw in this afternoon's Bundesliga clash.

The home side drove forward early on, resulting in a chance for Rafael van der Vaart, but the playmaker could only hit his shot wide.

Vieirinha broke free for Wolfsburg on 24 minutes, but he couldn't find the finish when in on goal.

Artjoms Rudnevs had an opportunity just a minute later, but the defence closed him down well to deny his effort.

Just after the half-hour mark, Ivica Olic had a strike on goal, although his shot was well saved by the goalkeeper.

Heiko Westermann gave Hamburg the lead just on the stroke of half time, heading home a cross from Van der Vaart.

Hamburg continued to push at the start of the second half, with Rudnevs coming close.

The away side then drew level on 65 minutes when Makoto Hasebe headed home a fine ball from Ivan Perisic.

Bas Dost had two opportunities within two minutes for Wolfsburg, but couldn't trouble the goalkeeper with either of them.

Hamburg surged forward once again on 83 minutes and almost regained their lead, but Westermann could only put his header wide.
