Manchester United's alleged hopes of signing Andreas Christensen before the end of the January transfer window have been ended, with the Denmark international ruled out of action for up to three weeks with a calf problem.
Christensen has only made one appearance for Barcelona this season due to a long-standing Achilles issue, but he has been back on the bench for his side's last three matches.
There has recently been speculation surrounding the 28-year-old's future, with Man United believed to be considering making a late move for the Dane, while Juventus are also thought to have been keen to sign him.
Barcelona head coach Hansi Flick recently opened the door to a potential move in the latter stages of the market.
"He came back from a serious injury and is doing very well in training, although there are players ahead of him. We know his quality and we'll see what happens," said Flick ahead of his side's La Liga clash with Valencia.

Barcelona confirm fresh injury setback for Christensen
However, Barcelona have announced that the centre-back has suffered a calf problem, and that will end his chances of leaving the Catalan giants in the final stages of the winter market.
"The first-team player Andreas Christensen suffered an injury to his right calf in Monday's training session. The defender will be out of action for around three weeks," read a club statement.
"The Danish international has made just one appearance this season, in the opening game of the league season against Valencia in Mestalla. Following that game Christensen was diagnosed with an Achilles problem that kept him out for several months. The centre back has made a total of 75 appearances for Barca, scoring four goals."
Christensen is therefore set to remain with Barcelona for the rest of the season before a decision is made on his future.
The defender is highly-rated by Man United due to his form in the Premier League, representing Chelsea on 161 occasions, including 93 appearances in England's top flight, ahead of his move to Barcelona.

Will Man United make any signings before the January market closes?
Lecce's Patrick Dorgu will reportedly undergo a medical with Man United on Thursday ahead of signing a long-term deal at Old Trafford, with an agreement between the two clubs said to have been reached.
Dorgu could make his debut for the Red Devils in Sunday's Premier League clash against Crystal Palace.
Man United are also set to move for a new forward if either Marcus Rashford or Alejandro Garnacho leave; Bayern Munich's Mathys Tel is said to be a target, with the Frenchman expected to depart Allianz Arena before the end of the transfer window.
