Centre-forward Rickie Lambert is hoping that he can become a regular part of the senior England squad.

Southampton striker Rickie Lambert has revealed his ambition to be part of the England squad for next summer's World Cup in Brazil.

The 31-year-old was called up for the first time by manager Roy Hodgson last week for Wednesday night's clash against Scotland at Wembley.

Having forced his way into the senior setup, Lambert is now keen to keep hold of his place.

"I'm trying to take everything in and be calm but I'm trying to get here again, do well, impress and hopefully get another chance," he told reporters. "I'm hoping I'm going to be here for whoever England are playing. If my style suits Scotland that's better for me but I want to be here for whoever were playing.

"I hope it does send a message I never gave up hope, hopefully it sends out the message that if you are performing you'll get a chance. Even if I didn't get called up for Scotland I would have been determined to get myself in before Brazil."

Lambert scored 15 goals in the Premier League for the Saints last season.
