Jamie Redknapp: 'England lacking central midfielders'

Former England international Jamie Redknapp believes that more central midfielders need to be produced for the national team.

Former England international Jamie Redknapp has claimed that there is currently a lack of central midfielders for manager Roy Hodgson to call upon.

The Three Lions return to action following their disappointing World Cup campaign tonight when they play Norway in a friendly at Wembley Stadium.

With players such as Fabian Delph and Jack Colback in the squad as cover for the injured Michael Carrick and Ross Barkley, Redknapp believes that there are few options for the national team in the centre of the park.

"At the moment we haven't got a great deal of options," he told Sky Sports News. "We haven't got a lot of options apart from [Jack Wilshere and Jordan Henderson].

"Fabian Delph is in there and is a young man and a good footballer, but we do need to be producing more central midfield players. There isn't that many out there at the moment with people like Ross Barkley injured."

England start their 2016 European Championship qualifying campaign on Monday when they face Switzerland in Basel.
