Crystal Palace assistants Ray Lewington and Paddy McCarthy are set to take charge of their clash with Everton this evening, given Roy Hodgson's current health problems.

Crystal Palace assistants Ray Lewington and Paddy McCarthy have reportedly been handed the responsibility of managing the side for their trip to Everton in the Premier League this evening.

Roy Hodgson is currently continuing his recovery after being taken ill during training last week, which forced him to be taken to hospital.

That came amid strong rumours that Hodgson is about to be replaced in his role as manager by former Eintracht Frankfurt boss Oliver Glasner.

Sky Deutschland claim that Glasner has agreed to become the new Eagles manager on a contract running until 2026, with an option of a further year.

The Daily Mail have also reported that after falling ill, Hodgson has considered stepping aside from his role and retiring from management.

That would allow Glasner to come in and fill the vacant role, providing him with his first job since leaving Frankfurt last summer.

For the time being though, ahead of Palace's huge relegation encounter at Goodison Park, Hodgson's assistants Lewington and McCarthy are set to take charge against Everton, according to Edmund Brack of the South London Press.

Ahead of the meeting, opposing manager Sean Dyche gave his best wishes to Hodgson in his pre-match press conference.

"I wish Roy well, he is a great guy who I respect greatly. It's an important game to us but bigger than the game is Roy's health and I hope he comes through this with no problems," said the Everton manager.

Palace enter the fixture down in 16th after they were leapfrogged by Nottingham Forest, who beat West Ham United 2-0 on Saturday.

Luton Town, Sheffield United, Burnley and Brentford all lost though, meaning one of Everton or Palace could take advantage and move away from the drop zone with a win.

Without key players Eberechi Eze and Michael Olise, the task appears much tougher for a side who have won just two of their last 15 games though.

Eze and Olise played a pivotal role in one of those two victories, with involvements in all three of their goals in the home success over Sheffield United in late January.

Palace were without Olise when they faced Everton home and away in the FA Cup last month, where Dyche's men eliminated them in a replay thanks to Andre Gomes's free kick.
