Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea are reportedly pessimistic about their chances of signing Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies.

Manchester City, Liverpool and Chelsea reportedly expect to miss out on Bayern Munich defender Alphonso Davies.

In recent months, it has been suggested that the Canada international will give serious consideration to departing the Allianz Arena.

As it stands, there are just under 19 months remaining on his contract at the Bundesliga giants, a scenario which is likely to lead to Bayern wanting to hold discussions as soon as possible.

However, reports have indicated that the left-sided player has attracted the attention of Real Madrid and is happy to explore a switch to the Santiago Bernabeu.

His representatives have also hinted in the past that they are aware that Los Blancos are contemplating whether to try to negotiate a deal at the end of 2023-24.

Davies remains very much as a key man at Bayern, already making as many as 18 appearances for Thomas Tuchel's side this campaign.

Nevertheless, there will also be interest from the Premier League should it become apparent that a new challenge is more likely that an extension of his current terms.

That said, according to 90min, there is an acceptance among the English teams in question that they are outsiders behind Real in the race for his signature.

Man City and Liverpool, in particular, have been linked with new left-backs of late, while Chelsea are frequently being credited with interest in perceived upgrades to their current crop.

Pep Guardiola may be in the market for a fresh face down that side of the pitch, putting the future of Sergio Gomez in further doubt, while Jurgen Klopp may potentially be ready to consider an alternative to Kostas Tsimikas.

Instead, the trio of teams in question feel that 23-year-old Davies has already opted to sign for Real if they can agree a fee with Bayern.

As well as having an increased transfer budget for next summer, the La Liga outfit are reportedly keen to find a long-term option at left-back, replacing one of Ferland Mendy or Fran Garcia.

From Bayern's perspective, they are unlikely to be prepared to risk losing Davies on a free transfer by allowing him to enter the final 10 month or so of his contract and remain on his current deal past next September.
