Chelsea skipper John Terry will play through the pain against Portsmouth on Sunday afternoon.

Chelsea defender John Terry will face Portsmouth on Sunday afternoon, despite needing pain-killing injections in his knee.

The England skipper, 31, was expected to miss out, but with the Blues currently nursing a number of defensive injuries, Chelsea assistant boss Roberto Di Matteo has stated that Terry could start.

"John Terry has been playing with a knock on his knee and there is an issue there. He had to play with an injection against Wolves on Monday but it's manageable and we don't think it will be a long-term problem," Di Matteo told The Sun.

"We'll have to see how painful it is after training on Saturday and then decide if he can play. We want to play out strongest available team."

Terry has made 515 appearances for the club, scoring 46 goals.
