Report: Brentford to appoint Mark Warburton as manager

Brentford are poised to appoint sporting director Mark Warburton as their new manager following the departure of Uwe Rosler to Wigan Athletic.

League One outfit Brentford are expected to promote sporting director Mark Warburton to the managerial position vacated by Uwe Rosler last week.

Rosler quit Griffin Park on Saturday to take over the reins at Wigan Athletic, who had sacked Owen Coyle with the club sitting 14th in the Championship table.

Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink and ex-Portsmouth and Blackpool boss Michael Appleton had been touted as possible successors to Rosler, who took charge at Brentford in July 2011.

However, Sky Sports News claims that it will be Warburton, who is credited as the co-creator of the NextGen Series, in which Under-19 sides from across Europe compete, who will replace the German.

Warburton is a former youth team coach at Watford and was linked with the sporting director's post at Premier League outfit West Bromwich Albion last season.
