David Cotterill leaves Birmingham City by mutual consent

Wales international David Cotterill is no longer with Championship side Birmingham City after having his contract cancelled by mutual consent.

Wales international David Cotterill has left Championship side Birmingham City after having his contract cancelled by mutual consent.

The 30-year-old winger has made just eight appearances for Blues across all competitions this season and would have seen his deal expire at the end of the season.

Cotterill's last start for Blues came in the 2-0 defeat to Barnsley at the beginning of November, which was just his third outing under his namesake's stewardship.

"I'm sad to leave a great club in Birmingham City I've had so many great memories whilst playing here," the Welshman wrote on his social media pages.

"I want to thank Gary Rowett for the amazing times we had under him I truly believe we were heading for special times and in that a promotion to the Premier League wasn't far away.

"All my teammates over the years here all have been great people, the staff also who have been a great help to me.

"I want to thank Steve Cotterill for helping me a lot too who works extremely hard in making sure the clubs fortunes turn around.

"The fans you have been amazing, when the fans at St. Andrews are fully behind the team there is no better place to be playing I loved it."

Cotterill spent the second half of last season on loan at Bristol City, where he made 13 appearances and scored twice.
