Barnsley complete double signing of Adam Jackson, Adam Armstrong

Barnsley sign Adam Jackson from Middlesbrough on a three-year deal and Adam Armstrong from Newcastle United on loan until January.

Barnsley have completed the double signing of Adam Jackson and Adam Armstrong from Middlesbrough and Newcastle United respectively.

Jackson, 22, has signed a three-year deal at Oakwell and joins the club for an undisclosed fee after coming through the ranks at the newly-promoted Boro.

Armstrong, meanwhile, joins from Championship rivals Newcastle United on loan until January following a prolific loan spell at Coventry City last season which saw him score 20 goals in 40 appearances.

On Jackson, Barnsley boss Paul Heckingbottom told the club's official website: "He stood out and excelled in League Two with Hartlepool, and having watched him for a long period of time we know exactly what he is capable of. He is ready for the challenge of the Championship.

"He's a player with great strength and will provide us with a big physical presence at the back. His ball distribution, speed, and ability to bring the ball out from the back fits perfectly into our playing style and I'm really looking forward to working with him as we look to continue what has been a superb start to the season."

He added on Armstrong: "Firstly, I am very thankful to Newcastle United for allowing Adam to come on loan here. He is a player I am incredibly pleased to bring to the club and one I have been enquiring about for some time.

"His talent and goal scoring abilities are clear to see as he was excellent in League One last season scoring a tonne of goals. We've started the season in great form, scoring a lot of goals and I have no doubts that Adam will make an instant impact and excite the fans."

Both players could make their debuts against Preston North End after the international break.
