Barcelona president Joan Laporta says that the club 'will do everything they can' to re-sign Lionel Messi this summer.

Barcelona president Joan Laporta has said that the club 'will do everything they can' to bring Lionel Messi back to Camp Nou this summer.

The world of football was shocked in the summer of 2021 when Messi left the Catalan giants on a free transfer, with the La Liga team unable to renew his contract due to their financial problems.

Paris Saint-Germain signed Messi on a two-year deal, which is due to expire this summer, and the World Cup winner is set to leave the French champions at the end of next month.

The 35-year-old is believed to have an enormous offer from Saudi Arabia, but an emotional return to Barcelona is also potentially on the cards for the attacker.

Head coach Xavi, who played alongside Messi at Camp Nou, has said on a number of occasions that he wants the Argentina international to return to the club this summer.

Laporta, speaking after Barcelona's La Liga title triumph on Sunday evening, said that his club 'will do everything they can' to bring the forward back to Camp Nou.

"We will do everything we can to bring Leo Messi back to Barcelona. We are already working on next year's team. We hope to be able to reinforce the team," Laporta told Jijantes FC.

"We are in an austerity plan at the club to be able to have enough fair-play to allow us to improve the team. We are doing our homework to be able to have an even more competitive team next season."

Barcelona's 4-2 success over Espanyol in the Catalan derby saw them win the La Liga title with four games to spare, handing Xavi his second trophy as head coach of the club.

"Xavi has been decisive. Apart from his knowledge of football, he has knowledge of the institution, of the style,' Laporta added on Sunday night.

"He has worked hard so that we can offer quality football. He has been decisive. He deserves congratulations. We have a great coach. We are very happy."

A potential return to Camp Nou for Messi remains incredibly complicated due to Barcelona's financial issues, although Sergio Busquets is leaving on a free transfer at the end of June, which will make space in the budget.

Jordi Alba is also being heavily linked with a move away from the club, although the Spaniard has a contract at Camp Nou until next June, and he is believed to be keen to stay until the end of his deal.
