Diego Simeone's first match in charge of Atletico Madrid ends with a 0-0 draw at Malaga.

Diego Simeone's first match in charge of Atletico Madrid ended with a goalless draw at Malaga.

Diego Buonanotte almost gave the hosts a seventh minute lead, but his shot was spectacularly saved by Thibaut Courtois.

Courtois was again called into action when he tipped Jose Rondon's close-range header over the bar following Santiago Cazorla's corner.

Madrid came close on 30 minutes when Diego Ribas's shot crashed back off the bar after it had taken a deflection.

In a second half of few chances, the visitors nearly went ahead when Diego Godin's header was cleared off the line by Cazorla.

Tiago's left-footed effort curled marginally wide in the final five minutes, but neither side had the killer touch in front of goal to make the breakthrough.

The draw has lifted Atletico up to ninth in La Liga, while Malaga go fifth with the point.
