Ron Vlaar considering Aston Villa stay

Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar admits that the club's revival under the tenure of Tim Sherwood has made him reconsider his future at Villa Park.

Aston Villa defender Ron Vlaar has revealed that the club's resurgence under Tim Sherwood may convince him to remain at Villa Park beyond the end of the season.

The 30-year-old's contract comes to an end in the summer, and the defender has been linked with a move to Manchester United among other clubs across Europe.

However, Vlaar has admitted that his side's improvement under Sherwood, which has seen them reach the final of the FA Cup following their win over Liverpool, has made him think twice over his future.

He told Sky Sports News: "Things have changed for me in the past few months since [Tim] Sherwood took over. It's been a hard season for me with all the injuries. Now I just want to play and be important for the team. This helps - you can trust me on that.

"I don't know about my future but to be part of this feels so good, to feel the joy and relief after the West Brom game (the FA Cup quarter-final). So many people came on the pitch.

"The impact for the fans, how big this club and what it all means. I called my dad and said 'This really means something'. It's great. Everything helps."

Vlaar has been restricted to just 17 appearances for Villa this season due to a spate of injuries.
