Half-Time Report: Nikica Jelavic fires Hull City ahead

Nikica Jelavic scores in the first half to give Hull City a 1-0 lead over Aston Villa.

A first-half goal from Nikica Jelavic has given Hull City a 1-0 lead over Aston Villa at the KC Stadium in the Premier League this evening.

Paul Lambert's side dominated possession in the opening 10 minutes, and they had a chance to break the deadlock when Andreas Weimann created some space just outside the box, but he fired narrowly wide.

Dame N'Doye started to look lively for the home side, picking up the ball after a mistake from Ciaran Clark to unleash a shot, but it was stopped by Brad Guzan.

The January signing had a hand in Hull taking the lead with just over 20 minutes played though as he set up Jelavic to fire the ball into the top corner from close range, although the ball did take a deflection off Clark.

Fabian Delph came closest to getting the visitors back on level terms, but his long-range effort was sliced well wide to leave Hull ahead.
