Granit Xhaka says that his struggle to cement a regular first-team spot is "normal" following his £30m summer switch to Arsenal.

Granit Xhaka has insisted that his slow start to life as an Arsenal player is "normal", despite being the club's third-most expensive signing ever.

The 24-year-old joined the Gunners from Borussia Monchengladbach in May, costing a reported £30m, but the midfielder has struggled to keep a place in Arsene Wenger's first team.

Xhaka has started 10 games in all competitions so far, and he could get a chance to impress in his homeland Switzerland tonight when Arsenal face Basel in the Champions League.

The match is a dead rubber as the Gunners have already qualified for the last-16 stage of the tournament, but they still have an opportunity to take top spot from Paris Saint-Germain.

"Well, actually, it's normal when you come to a new club and country," The Mirror quotes Xhaka as saying. "You need to get used to the language, the philosophy of the team, the squad, the coach.

"But I do feel very happy and comfortable here, and I know the potential I have. In football you just have to develop yourself."

The North London outfit currently sit second in the Premier League table, three points adrift of leaders Chelsea.
