Neil Warnock: 'English football owes departing Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger'

Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock says that English football "owes" Arsene Wenger, who has decided to leave Arsenal at the end of the season.

Cardiff City boss Neil Warnock has credited Arsene Wenger for 'changing' English football during his time at Arsenal.

On Friday, Wenger announced that he will step down from his role at the Gunners next month, bringing to an end a 22-year reign as manager of the North London outfit.

Warnock has previously been a rival to Wenger, but the veteran has heaped praise on the Frenchman who he says has not deserved the recent criticism he has received.

At a press conference, Warnock told reporters: "He's the man who changed the whole face of the game.

"We owe him so much, yet have given him so much stick. In a way I'm glad he's going, I wouldn't want to see him get any more vitriol than he's had."

Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has claimed that he has been left "surprised" by Wenger's decision to leave Arsenal.
