Mikel Arteta reveals that he takes his role as Arsenal vice-captain very seriously and is not afraid to be vocal in the dressing room.

Mikel Arteta has declared that he is relishing the responsibility of being handed the role of vice-captain at the Emirates.

The Spanish midfielder has flourished in a deeper role since joining the Gunners last summer, resulting in Arsene Wenger picking him to support Thomas Vermaelen as Arsenal captain.

Arteta has insisted that he is not afraid to be vocal as a senior figure in the first-team squad if he feels it is necessary.

He told the club's official website: "For me it's a big honour [to be vice-captain]. I haven't been here for a long time. If Arsene Wenger thinks I'm the right person to help Thomas lead this group, I'm more than happy with that.

"I take it very seriously and try to benefit the interests of the players and the club. That's what I will try to do this season.

"I'm quite passionate and I can't really be quiet when my blood starts to flow or when things aren't going well, or I think we need to do something more."

Arsenal aim to continue their solid start to the season with a trip to Carrow Road this weekend, taking on a Norwich City side who are still looking for their first Premier League victory of the campaign.
