Eugenie Bouchard progresses at Wuhan Open

Eugenie Bouchard moves into the third round of the Wuhan Open thanks to a three-set triumph over Mona Barthel.

Eugenie Bouchard has reached the third round of the Wuhan Open after fighting back to beat Mona Barthel.

The sixth seed got off to a bad start as Barthel took an unpredictable opening set 6-4, but she moved into a 4-1 lead in the second before closing it out 6-3.

Despite world number 55 Barthel going 2-0 up in the decider with an early break, the Wimbledon finalist recovered to secure the victory 4-6 6-3 6-4 in just over two hours.

Bouchard will now face either Sara Errani or Alison Riske for a place in the quarter-finals of the tournament.
