Fabio Fognini defeated at Italian Open

Fabio Fognini is beaten in the opening round of the Italian Open by Lukas Rosol.

Fabio Fognini has been knocked out in the opening round of the Italian Open thanks to a straight-sets loss against Lukas Rosol.

The Italian, who was seeded 13th at the tournament, failed to assert himself in the first set as world number 56 Rosol closed it out 6-3.

Fognini struggled even further in the second before the Czech clinched the victory 6-2 with 67 minutes played.

Waiting for Rosol in the next round will be either Croatia's Ivan Dodig or Argentina's Federico Delbonis.
