Angelique Kerber cruises into second round past Katarzyna Piter

Angelique Kerber sweeps aside world number 97 Katarzyna Piter to move into the second round of the French Open.

World number nine Angelique Kerber swept aside Katarzyna Piter to move into the second round of the French Open this evening.

Kerber, a former quarter-finalist at Roland Garros, cruised into a first-set lead courtesy of a 6-3 win over Piter - who is ranked 97 in the world.

The German then inflicted three breaks of serve over her Polish counterpart en route to a 6-1 second-set win as Kerber booked her place in round two in just 67 minutes.

Kerber will now face Varvara Lepchenko for a place in the third round.
