Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha is charged by the Football Association for his part in the fracas that ensued after Saturday's defeat to Ipswich Town.

Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Matheus Cunha has been charged by the Football Association, it was revealed on Tuesday morning.

On Saturday, the West Midlands outfit succumbed to a last-gasp 2-1 defeat at the hands of Premier League relegation rivals Ipswich Town.

Head coach Gary O'Neil was subsequently sacked the following day, Wolves now on the brink of appointing Vitor Pereira as his successor.

However, it was always likely that there would be more fallout from the Molineux fixture after the two teams were involved in a fracas in the aftermath of the full-time whistle.

What happened?

Cunha, who had earlier scored Wolves' equaliser during a frantic closing half-hour, was shown to have played a part in a confrontation that involved a member of Ipswich's security staff.

The Brazil international put his hand into the face of the aforementioned person before pulling his glasses from his face.

In a statement that was released on Tuesday morning, the Football Association confirmed that they were charging the versatile attacker with misconduct.

It read: "Matheus Cunha has been charged with misconduct following the Premier League match between Wolverhampton Wanderers and Ipswich Town on Saturday, 14 December.

"The forward allegedly acted in an improper manner after the final whistle. He has until Thursday, 19 December, to provide a response."

As per X account 'Talking Wolves', Wolves are considering whether to appeal the punishment.

A double-blow for Pereira?

If Wolves do decide to appeal what is expected to be a ban, it would likely enable Cunha to be available for Sunday's potentially-pivotal clash against Leicester City at the King Power Stadium.

Left-sided player Rayan Ait-Nouri - another key man - is already suspended courtesy of the red card that he received for his own part in the scenes after Saturday's match.

That said, the Algeria international was already due to serve a one-match courtesy of picking up his fifth yellow card versus the Tractor Boys.

While Wolves may keep Cunha available for the Foxes encounter, there is the possibility that he could miss at least one of the following fixtures against Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest.
