Andy Murray breezes into the second round of the Australian Open with a straight-sets win on his return to Grand Slam tennis.

Andy Murray returned to Grand Slam tennis with a bang as he breezed into the second round of the Australian Open on Tuesday.

The Scot advanced from the opener Down Under with a 6-1 6-1 6-3 win over over Japan's Go Soeda, in what was just his third competitive match since recovering from back surgery in September.

Despite previously declaring that it would take him time to hit top form, the fourth seed made quick work of the unseeded Japanese and had little trouble roaring to a straight-sets victory in just 87 minutes in the searing heat at the Hisense Arena.

Murray did not face a break point on his serve, and took advantage of six of his 13 break-point opportunities as he looks to add to his 2012 US Open title and last year's triumph at Wimbledon.

Murray will next play the winner of France's Vincent Millot or another qualifier in American Wayne Odesnik.
