Newcastle Falcons falter against Exeter Chiefs

Exeter Chiefs climb up to fifth in the Aviva Premiership table with a 16-3 win over the Newcastle Falcons.

Exeter Chiefs have sealed a comfortable 16-3 win over Newcastle Falcons in the Aviva Premiership this afternoon.

Gareth Steenson added all the points for the home side in the first half, kicking all three of his penalty attempts through the posts to give the Chiefs a 9-3 lead at the break.

Ten minutes into the second half, Haydn Thomas increase Exeter's advantage, forcing his way over the line for the first and only try of the meeting.

Both sides continued to push, as Exeter looked for a bonus point, while the visitors tried to get back into the match, but neither were able to add to their scores.

The result lifts Exeter up to fifth in the table, while Newcastle sit ninth.
